Strategic Planning Workshop


With the formation of  the new board , it was essential to review and assess strategies and formulate for future course of action. Hence, to set a strategic direction, FTG Nepal organised two days Strategic Planning Workshop to prepare the Strategic Plan for next three years (2018-2020).The workshop was organized on December 16-17, 2017 at Balthali Village Resort. 

Executive members of FTG Nepal, representatives of member organisations were involved in the workshop (there were 27 participants in the workshop).

During the workshop open and free discussions were held regarding the future of the organisation. FTG Nepal’s internal strength and weakness was assessed, attractive opportunities and serious threats under political, social, economical, legal, environmental and technological aspects were ascertained through discussion and participatory approach.


World Fair Trade Day 2017


Fair Trade Group Nepal hosted World Fair Trade Day 2017 with the continued theme ‘Being an Agent for Change’ on May 6, 2017.  Cycle Rally was organized with 45 active participants from Tripureshwar to Bhaktapur and joining the walkathon of more than 1400 participants in Bhaktapur.

In these three years, we have been able to cover major three districts that are rich in traditional skills and culture. Bhaktapur being one of the cities that are known for wooden craft and ceramics is our targeted area to educate the localities and communities about Fair Trade.

The event holds the emotional value as it is a demonstration of solidarity with producers in Nepal and around the world. Joining hands and forming a human chain is a step to build stronger bond towards Fair Trade movement.

The event was promoted through social media; facebook. Press Release was sent to known media publications and was invited to join the walkathon. Message on World Fair Trade Day was published on Media; The Himalayan Times.  Post the event, Chairman’s interview on World Fair Day was aired on local Bhaktapur FM radio channel. 


21st Annual General Meeting


Fair Trade group Nepal organized its 21st Annual General Meeting on August 18, 2017. Mr. Chandra Prasad Kachhipati, Chairperson welcomed all the members and shared the delights of FTGN’s achievements in terms of promoting fair trade in Nepali context, networking, and the overall business performance of the members.

The annual progress report of FTGN for the financial year 2073/74 presented by Secretary, Mr. Sunil Chitrakar was endorsed by the AGM. Ms. Revita Shrestha, Treasurer of FTGN presented the audited financial report for the year 2073/74, and proposed the budget for the year 2074/75. Mr. Chita Bahadur K.C., Vice-Chair ended the meeting by giving a vote of thanks.

After the closing of AGM, an election was held to call for new members. FTGN welcomed newly elected board. 

 


Awards


Best Commodity Award 

Fair Trade Group Nepal received The Best Commodity Association Award during 35th Annual General Meeting of FHAN in recognition of exemplary work and performance of Fair Trade Group Nepal. The award was received by Mr. Chitra BahadurK.C., then acting chairperson of FTGN from honorable Vice-president of Nepal, Mr Nanda Bahadur Pun.

 

The Best Exporter Award

During 35th Annual General Meeting of FHAN, Manushi, Hatale Udhyog and sister concern of KTS received an award for their contribution in the exports of handicrafts.

 

Lalitpur Chamber of Commerce and Industry (LCCI) Export Excellence Award

FTG Nepal Member Sana Hastakala was awarded with the Export Excellence Award for the Third position in Handicraft Export for the year 2014-2015(2071-72 B.S)

 

Best Woman Award 2072

FTG Board Member, Ms. Ram Kali Khadka received the Best Woman Award 2072 for the contribution made by Women’s Skills Development Organization towards the development of women entrepreneurship in the Kaski District during the Exhibition organized by PCCI, Women Entrepreneur Development Committee.

 

Special Service Honor 2073

Mr. Umesh Lama, Executive Director of Organic World and fair Future received a certificate of "Special Service Honor 2073" from Honorable Nanda Bahadur Pun (Pasang) The Vice President of Nepal.


Taxation Workshop


Addressing the need of the members to update taxation system in their organization, Fair Trade Group Nepal organized two days taxation workshop on December 28-29, 2017 at Yala Maya Kendra, Patan Dhoka. The workshop focused to build tax proficiency of the participants. There were around 23 participants attending. Mr. Mukunda Dev Adhikari and Mr. Shesh Mani Dahal facilitated the workshop.

The workshop highlighted below issues:

- Employment Tax Issues

- TDS on Service Fees, payment to Tax Exempt Organizations, Rents and Contractual Payments

- PAN and VAT queries on procurement

- Taxation of business

- Value Added Tax provisions

- Tax Returns

- Tax Issues for Individuals


Fair Trade Christmas Bazaar 2017


 

Fair Trade Group Nepal in collaboration with GIZ Nepal organized "Fair Trade Christmas Bazaar 2017" on 2nd December 2017 with the support of the Embassy of Federal Republic of Germany. The bazaar was inaugurated by His Excellency Mr. Roland Schaefer, The Ambassador of the Federal Republic of Germany, by lighting the ceremonial lamp thus marking the beginning of the bazaar. The fair provided a platform for exhibiting their products to gain market exposure. The event was a combination of handicraft, agro and non timber forest products, live demonstration of beading, candle making, carpet weaving and mithila painting, activities where children were engaged in block printing, face painting and beading and food stall that had mulled wine, waffles, apple juice, newari cuisine, etc. There were over 2000 visitors. German Mulled wine was the crowd puller of the bazaar. 


15th Handicraft Trade Fair


What an Exhibition it was! The crowd was amazing 15th Handicraft Trade Fair Exhibition (organized by Federation of Handicraft Association of Nepal. The five days exhibition featured top-notch handicraft pavilions, stalls, and craft competitions at Bhrikutimandap, Nepal from 17-21 November 2017. FTG Nepal and its 10 member organizations participated jointly under the Fair Trade Pavilion during the exhibition.

With a dedicated young team, the Fair Trade Pavilion featured a beautiful blend of contemporary and traditional life style concept wit the theme of ‘ Cute and Ugly’ and ‘Wabi Sabi’.   A showcase of products in the pavilion was designed to give an appeal of high-end retail store with home-living, fashion, accessories, and handicrafts. Over 200,000 visitors attended the event which used a voting system to grade the displays. 

The solidarity and strength of FTG Nepal is depicted from their involvement which resulted in receiving Best Pavilion Award.  The purpose of participation was to give voice to and advocate on Fair Trade and extend its longstanding relationship with FHAN.
