World Fair Trade Day 2016

On the occasion of World Fair Trade Day, Fair Trade Group Nepal on 14th May, Saturday organized Prabhat feri- Rally in Lalitpur. With a view to create awareness and educate on Fair Trade, rally walked through the areas of Lalitpur starting from Jawalakhel- Pulchowk- Ashok Stupa-Gahabal-Patan Durbar Square. Member organizations, partners and like-minded organizations joined hands together to show solidarity with Fair Traders and making a difference, being An Agent for Change.

The participants were given a warm welcome by Mr. Chitra Bahadur K.C. Acting Chair. Honorable Guest; Mr. Leela Mani Poudyal gave inaugural speech and welcomed about 1100 participants and flagged off to commence the rally. Producers from different organizations participated in full swing holding placards having information on Fair Trade Principles and distributing pamphlets.

Rally concluded at Patan Durbar Square. Fair Trade Group Nepal appreciated Mr. Leela Mani Poudyal and recognized him as an Agent for change for his contribution and strong support towards Fair Trade movement.  Then Human Chain was formed, strong network of fair traders to generate solidarity and convey that we are an Agent for Change making positive changes and we continue to make a difference.

WFTO Asia Conference- Bangkok

World Fair Trade organization- Asia held its biennial conference in Bangkok, Thailand from Oct.19th-22nd, 2016 at the beautiful Eco Sampran Riverside Resort. 23 participants from FTG Nepal and its member organization attended the conference. Mr. Chitra Bahadur K.C., Vice Chair of FTG Nepal was reelected as WFTO- Asia President for 2017-2018. The Summit focus was ‘Gender Equity, and Living Wage for Sustainable Business Growth’. The event provided the opportunity of Fair Trade organizations to exchange knowledge, experience and the best practices in Fair Trade, enhancing sustainable that benefits the most vulnerable sectors of the society. The event has helped build a stronger Fair Trade movement in Asia

20th Annual General Meeting

Fair Trade group Nepal organized its 20th Annual General Meeting on October 5, 2016. Mr. Chitra Bahdur K.C. then Acting Chairperson welcomed all the members and shared the delights of FTGN’s achievements in terms of promoting fair trade in Nepali context, networking, and the overall business performance of the members.

The annual progress report of FTGN for the financial year 2072/73 presented by Secretary, Mr. Sunil Chitrakar was endorsed by the AGM. Ms. Revita Shrestha, Treasurer of FTGN presented the audited financial report for the year 2072/73, and proposed the budget for the year 2073/74. Mr. Kamal Shrestha, Vice-Chair ended the meeting by giving a vote of thanks.



Best Commodity Award 

Fair Trade Group Nepal received The Best Commodity Association Award during 35th Annual General Meeting of FHAN in recognition of exemplary work and performance of Fair Trade Group Nepal. The award was received by Mr. Chitra BahadurK.C., then acting chairperson of FTGN from honorable Vice-president of Nepal, Mr Nanda Bahadur Pun.


The Best Exporter Award

During 35th Annual General Meeting of FHAN, Manushi, Hatale Udhyog and sister concern of KTS received an award for their contribution in the exports of handicrafts.


Lalitpur Chamber of Commerce and Industry (LCCI) Export Excellence Award

FTG Nepal Member Sana Hastakala was awarded with the Export Excellence Award for the Third position in Handicraft Export for the year 2014-2015(2071-72 B.S)


Best Woman Award 2072

FTG Board Member, Ms. Ram Kali Khadka received the Best Woman Award 2072 for the contribution made by Women’s Skills Development Organization towards the development of women entrepreneurship in the Kaski District during the Exhibition organized by PCCI, Women Entrepreneur Development Committee.


Special Service Honor 2073

Mr. Umesh Lama, Executive Director of Organic World and fair Future received a certificate of "Special Service Honor 2073" from Honorable Nanda Bahadur Pun (Pasang) The Vice President of Nepal.

Fair Trade and Sustainable Development Workshop

The Advocacy workshop on ‘Fair Trade and Sustainable Development’ was organized by Fair Trade Group Nepal on December 30, 2016. The workshop was held with the objective to focus on developing the individual and organisational understanding capacity of Fait Trade with youth and potential members to demonstrate the practical aspect of foregrounding Fair Trade in entrepreneurship and their daily lives. There were 38 participants in total. The workshop helped organization to improve its areas to become member of Fair Trade. Youths were benefitted with the deep understanding of Fair Trade and its practices.

Fair Trade Christmas Bazaar 2016


Fair Trade Group Nepal in collaboration with GIZ Nepal organized "Fair Trade Christmas Bazaar 2016" on 26th November 2016 with the support of the Embassy of Federal Republic of Germany and Trade Export and Promotion Centre. The bazaar was inaugurated by Mr. Matthias Meyer, The Ambassador of the Federal Republic of Germany, and Mr. Andreas Gies, Director General at The Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) by lighting the ceremonial lamp thus marking the beginning of the bazaar. The fair provided a platform for exhibiting their products to gain market exposure. The event was a combination of handicraft, agro and non timber forest products, live demonstration of beading, candle making, carpet weaving and mithila painting, activities where children were engaged in block printing, face painting and beading and food stall that had mulled wine, waffles, apple juice, newari cuisine, etc. There were over 2000 visitors. German Mulled wine was the crowd puller of the bazaar. 

14th Handicraft Trade Fair

 What an Exhibition it was! The crowd was amazing 14th Handicraft Trade Fair Exhibition (organized by Federation of Handicraft Association of Nepal. The five days exhibition featured top-notch handicraft pavilions, stalls, and craft competitions at Bhrikutimandap, Nepal from 25-29 November 2016. FTG Nepal and its 10 member organizations participated jointly under the Fair Trade Pavilion during the exhibition.

With a dedicated young team, the Fair Trade Pavilion featured a beautiful blend of contemporary and traditional life style concepts. A Bedroom, , living room, and a beautiful garden with outdoor dining  was showcased. The other half of the pavilion was designed to give an appeal of high-end retail store with home-living, fashion, accessories, and handicrafts. Over 200,000 visitors attended the event which used a voting system to grade the displays.
