Fair Trade Charter Launch

With the jointly led process, two global networks, World Fair Trade Organization and Fairtrade International in consultation of other actors launched the New International Fair Trade Charter on September 25th 2018; a revised and updated version of the 2009 Charter of Fair Trade Principles which has been widely used as a primary reference document for policy and advocacy work. The Charter was drafted with the aim of producing a common reference document for the Global Fair Trade movement.

The International Fair Trade Charter was presented to the public on September 25th, 2018 coinciding with the 3rd anniversary of the UN Sustainable Development Goals 2030 (SDG goals 2030). On this occasion, Fair Trade Group Nepal (FTG Nepal) organized the Fair Trade Charter Launch event on September 28th 2018 at Hotel Radisson, Lazimpat where the new international reference point of Fair Trade, the International Fair Trade Charter was launched.

A workshop was organized to launch the charter and celebrate the contribution of Fair Trade (FT) in attaining the SDG 2030 goals, and raise awareness among different actors (public, private, social sectors) of SDG 2030 on Fair Trade and SDG 2030 goals. FTG Nepal pursued a wide range of organizations (Government, NGOs, INGOs, social lending organizations, enterprises) within and beyond the Fair-Trade movement to support the charter.
